We send Moses to the meet with God because we are afraid of his holiness. We create barriers between us and God to protect ourselves from the unknown God, to avoid direct personal contact. This root fear manifests in a wider sense in the institutionalization of the church. We create barriers, mediators, governors between us and God. We love our Saul's and Moses's. Our mediators. Our human shield between us and the God of Power and Holiness ... and love.
We carry this through in how we care for elderly - we create old age homes and professionalize love - we pay a mediator to do the job we are meant to do. We outsource our responsibilities so we can continue building our empires and our impactful influence towers.
We outsource our loving. We pay our pastors to do our devotions and read our scripture. We obsess over leadership culture because Saul and Moses are better at it than we will ever be.
We love being the audience, we love being entertained and the price, our ticket, is the cost of burying our talents, sitting on the graves of our potential. We mourn within being a nobody but it is only consoled by the next entertaining fix we consume as a religious spectator of religious programs.
We instiutionalise the church, care and the poor - the social state will take care of them - that's why we pay our taxes and tithes! Big government, little people. Big government in state and church is a judgement for a priesthood that has recused itself, withdrawn itself, abdicated their Royal Throne of their Royal Priesthood! It should not be so. Where is the priesthood of all believers? That have allowed themselves to be co-opted by mesmerising charismatic Christian celebrities. Associate with the humble. Consider other more highly than yourself. We love our political super heroes and we tell ourselves its through strong leadership that the problems are solved. We just need better mediators, governors and priests - they will sort out our base fear of doing something about going up the mountain to meet God ourselves - meet Ultimate Reality ourselves.
We love to institutionalize and anesthetize ourselves from our responsibility of direct relationship with God.
We live in prisons of our own making. Our guilt and shame reminds us of the justness of our prison sentence. Get out of jail! Your soul-prison is turning you into a machine. An inmate that is forced to obey its every rule. Christ offers true freedom, there are no mediators between God and mind but Christ. You need not live in the prison of your own guilt.
Give the keys of your jail cell to Christ. Handover the keys you lock yourself in with to Him. When you look to human shields to shelter you from God, you unknowlingly bestow on them Prison Keeper.
Many years behind the bars that you thought protect you from God alienates you from His life. Go to him direct church! Priesthood of all believers arise! Get out of the INSTITUTIONAL JAILS you have built around yourself in vain attempt to protect yourself from the Almighty.
Fire your governors and mediators!
No longer. Strong leadership is not the answer. Endless mediators are not the answer ... say, "Here I am Lord, I will go."
