SPYING OUT THE GLORIES OF THE COMMONPLACE SERIES NO#2
Peace to you!
What is in a Greeting?
Greetings are such common and everyday repetitive things. So common that we can easily overlook their profound effects on our relationships. And life is about relationships.
How two people greet each other demonstrates the stage and measure of their relationship. It is a visual snapshot of the state of their relationship. Think about that in your close relationships.
An intentional, slow *** conscious hello *** sets the tone of how you relate to someone. Be it a hug, good eye contact, or greeting with a scriptural blessing, a greeting is the mini-Genesis of your engagement with someone … for the good or bad. Greetings can help heal relationships. It’s the way we ‘see’ one another. Try “slow greeting” your family and friends, see if it makes a difference.
Slow Hello
As Lovers of God, we are able to greet people with the love of God that validates, values and recognizes the preciousness of each person we have the privilege of greeting in the beautiful name of our Lord and Master Jesus Christ. A Slow Hello can bring heaven to someone. A dismissive snub shows indifference, apathy as we hastily make a sacrifice to the Roman god of speed – Mercury.
Jesus has a high regard for greetings, both hello’s and farewell’s.

In a world that prizes brevity and a ‘quick hello’ kingdom culture stands as counter cultural. Consider Paul dedicating the best part of Ch16 of Romans, to greeting the brothers by name … how special they must have felt. He mentioned them by name, one by one?
John 20:21a
“Jesus repeated his greeting: “Peace to you.”
Peace to you!
